Privacy & Confidentiality

Privacy Policy

I take the protection of your personal data seriously.

In line with the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR / AVG), I am committed to processing your information in a safe, transparent, and respectful way.

To provide psychological care, I collect and store personal information such as:

  • Name, contact details, date of birth

  • Bank account number (for billing purposes)

  • Relevant health and therapy-related notes

  • Emergency contact (only if needed)

Your information is used exclusively to support your care and to maintain administrative and legal requirements.

It is never shared with third parties for commercial or research purposes without your explicit consent.

In some cases, limited administrative details (e.g. name and appointment time) may be shared with a trusted assistant, who is informed about strict data protection obligations.

Your rights includes:

  • Informed consent: I will always ask for your permission before collecting or using personal data.

  • Access: You can request to view or receive a copy of your records at any time.

  • Correction or deletion: You may ask to correct or delete data that is inaccurate or no longer needed—unless legal obligations prevent this.

  • Storage: Dutch law requires me to securely keep records for 20 years after the end of treatment.

  • Security: Your data is stored securely using encrypted systems, antivirus software, strong passwords, and physical protection (e.g. locked cabinets).

  • Data breaches: In the rare event of a data breach, I am legally required to report it within 72 hours to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

If you have questions or would like more details about how your data is handled, feel free to ask at any time.

Confidentiality

Your confidentiality is at the heart of the therapeutic relationship.

Everything you share with me during sessions is treated with the utmost care and discretion.

I am ethically and professionally bound by confidentiality regulations (in accordance with the Dutch NIP code of conduct and international ethical guidelines).

However, there are a few legal or ethical exceptions where I may need to share limited information:

  • Risk of harm: If there is a serious and immediate risk to your safety or to someone else’s, I am legally obligated to inform appropriate parties (such as medical professionals or emergency services).

  • Referrals: If I refer you to another healthcare professional, I may share only essential details—always the minimum necessary and, whenever possible, with your permission.

  • Professional supervision: To ensure quality of care, I may discuss anonymized cases with colleagues in supervision. Your identity is always fully protected.

  • Legal obligations: If ordered by a judge or legal authority, I may be required to share certain information. In such cases, I will strictly follow professional guidelines and disclose only what is legally necessary.

I will always inform you in advance and ask for your consent before sharing any information, except in the rare cases where I am legally required to act without it (for example, in situations involving serious safety risks or a court order).
